Turning his life around

Meet Paul Sherrington who is turning his life around by taking control in the way his support is directed.

Paul moved into his own tenancy in October 2007 with support from Paragon 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This move was a huge step for Paul and whilst he initially coped well with the changes in his life, Paul began to get frustrated.

“After looking at Paul’s person centred plan it was clear that through his behaviour he was telling us that the level of support he was receiving was too intensive.” Explains Marie Lloyd, Paragon Service Manager. “By working together with Paul and his multi-disciplinary team we supported Paul to develop a new support plan that encouraged Paul to take more control over his life and reduced his support hours.”

Paul has subsequently developed very positive relationships with his support team – especially Barrie Pilling, his Senior Support Worker. “Paul is now in the process of turning his life around as we work together to enable him to achieve his goals and aspirations. Paul has lots of skills and he is now looking to the future to find ways of building on these”. Marie adds.

Paul agrees: “I would like to go back to college. I have done Maths and English at college before and I would like to do something with computers and I also like performing arts and dancing. I’m looking for some employment opportunities too.” He adds.

It’s the combination of a new support plan and also Paul’s determination to turn his life around which has made him such an inspiration.

“Paul is a real success story – we are all very proud of him and can’t wait to see what the future will bring.” Marie adds.
